Memories of Plants
A new art exhibition opens at the Ghetto Fighters’ House Museum’s Or HaYom Gallery
The exhibition features 24 works by Lithuanian artist Dovile Dagienė, in which plant leaves serve as the surface onto which archival photographs of Vilna’s children are transferred.
These photographs depict reflections of childhood found in the archives of the Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History.
Like leaves that have fallen from trees, these images drifted through the courtyards and streets of the Vilna Ghetto following its liquidation.
The shadows of a painful past — the fates and unfulfilled dreams — look back at us from within the framed plant leaves. The plants have thus become unique monuments of time and memory.
