Three months ago, the book “Appointment in Samarra: The Diary of a Jew in Hiding in Warsaw” was published. It is based on the diary of Sewek Okonowski, a resident of Warsaw who lived in hiding in the city during the Warsaw Uprising and after it.

The fascinating story behind the publication of Sylvia Gotmanova’s diary

Many diaries have been uncovered over the years documenting the difficult experiences of children and adults during the Holocaust. One of these diaries was written by Sylvia Gotmanova, who was only nine years old when Czechoslovakia’s Sudetenland region was annexed by Germany, and only 10 years old when the Nazis occupied the entire country.

Michael Goldman-Gilad’s visit to the museum // June 2017

Michael Goldman-Gilad, a Holocaust survivor and one of the chief interrogators of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann after his capture, visited the Ghetto Fighters’ House last month. His personal story inspired the title of the film “The 81st Blow”.

The Second Generation Speaks and Remembers – A series of meetings

Authors from various fields shared memories from their parents' homes and how they influenced their work. The meetings focused on the troubles of the second generation, the outcomes of the prolonged coping with the first generation's trauma, which shaped its lives in many ways. We discussed the second generation's ways of coping with the trauma through creation and humor.
